FAQ

Days of Prayer and Action for Colombia (DoPA)

What is DOPA?

DOPA is an ecumenical, international event to raise awareness about the challenges to lasting peace with justice in Colombia, to advocate with national and international governmental organizations for policies to promote peace, and to lift up the voices and stories of the people in Colombia who work for peace and to pray for them.

When is DOPA celebrated?

This year, DOPA will join forces with the celebration of Bread and Peace that will be held on September 20-23, 2019 (within the framework of International Peace Day, September 21) but if those dates won’t work in your church, your community or organization, don’t let that stop you from participating! You can choose another date.

How can I get involved?

  • Put the dates on the calendar of your church or faith community and lift up stories from Colombia and peace for Colombia during the service. We have available a packet of resources to help you do this.
  • Host a vigil for peace in Colombia.
  • Use one of the lesson plans for children in religious education class or at school.
  • Organize an educational event at your church, school, or organization—or in your home—and invite your friends and neighbors! Learn more about the challenges to building peace with justice in Colombia and take action together as advocates.
  • Follow DOPA on social media (@DOPAColombia on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and tag us when you share your commitment to promoting peace in Colombia.
